The Temperance Center in Eastchester, NY, celebrated its second anniversary last month, and founder and owner Merrill Black says there have been exciting new developments there. “Along with the individualized services we offer, our yoga program has blossomed and continues to expand,” she says. “We now have six yoga teachers, and we hope the staff will grow even more. We offer classes most days and evenings, including weekends.” The center recently launched a weekly teen yoga class (ages 13-17), and there are plans to build on its current menu of one-day yoga workshops.
“Our focus is healing,” Black says. “I feel so fortunate to have such a talented team of yoga teachers who are committed to healing the mind, body and spirit.” Each class is unique in what it offers students, she adds. Among the yoga classes available are vinyasa flow; restorative; therapeutic flow (which often uses stretch, strengthening and breath throughout the class); chakra toning and various flows; reflective, mindful and body-awareness flow; and bodyART (a blend of yoga, dance, tai chi and Pilates). “The intimate setting allows our teachers to provide a great deal of individualized attention to their students,” Black says.
The day and evening guided channeling meditation group also is thriving and evolving, she says, adding, “I’m excited to see how the center expands and what new classes and workshops will be offered, both in yoga and in other specialty areas.”
