Holistic Wellness for Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors: Supports the physical, emotional and social wellness of women managing breast cancer through free tai chi, meditation and yoga classes, as well as semiannual educational workshops.

Sometimes a woman’s greatest inspiration comes from other women who share similar experiences. The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester has been fostering this unique sisterhood through initiatives like the Breast Cancer Holistic Program, now in its second year.

Funded in part by the New York State Department of Health, the program is designed to support the physical, emotional and social wellness of women managing breast cancer through free tai chi, meditation and yoga classes, as well as semiannual educational workshops.

Whether a woman is newly diagnosed, in treatment or post-treatment, developing a regular exercise and meditation practice can be an important part of staying healthy, says Ashley Hardesty, outreach specialist for the YWCA’s breast cancer programs. “Participants not only develop tools to manage the physical and emotional side effects of treatment, but have the opportunity to share and learn from other women going through a similar life experience. As we learn to say at the YWCA, ‘Strong alone, fearless together.’”

Holistic wellness classes are offered at the YWCA in White Plains throughout the year. For more information, visit ywcawpcw.org. To register, call the YWCA at 914.949.6227 ext. 208.
