Manna Foods in White Plains, Expands, Adds Resident Nutritionist
Angela T. Russo and Niels Svendsen of Manna Foods health food store
When Niels Svendsen opened Manna Foods health food store in 1977 in the heart of White Plains, NY, it was a pioneer endeavor. Now the longest-standing store of its kind in Westchester County, it expanded in 2011, offering a bright dining area and plenty of shelf space. “It could be said that Manna Foods has grown right alongside the city of White Plains,” he says.
Historically, Manna has been described as a “California-style” health food store, selling organic natural foods, vitamin supplements and freshly prepared vegetarian lunch. “The expansion of Café Manna Foods and the selling floor has allowed us to focus on these same basics, but with more options of discounted supplements and natural vegetarian food that we make fresh daily, in our kitchen,” Svendsen says.
Now Angela T. Russo, a certified nutrition specialist, has joined Manna as the store’s resident nutritionist. “Angela brings a new dimension to the store by providing monthly presentations about health topics and answering supplement questions,” Svendsen says. “She also schedules one-on-one consultations and provides expert advice on meal plans for health conditions, food allergies, gluten sensitivities, weight management and energy.” Russo performs total body testing to address clients’ health-related symptoms. She strongly advocates organic, whole green foods, specialized supplements and antioxidants as part of her programs.
