Postpartum Therapists Host Mindful Parenting Event: July 24, at 7 p.m.

Lauren Safran

A Bridge Home, which offers in-home psychotherapy to new mothers, will lead a mindful parenting presentation July 24, at 7 p.m., at the Chappaqua Library.

“There are so many self-help books, but parents are as unique as their children,” says Kira Bartlett, a doctor of psychology who cofounded A Bridge Home along with Lauren Safran, a licensed clinical social worker. “The most important tools a new parent can arm themselves with are ones that relieve stress, promote mindfulness and decrease self-criticism. We’ll provide practical advice to make coping with new parenthood an easier and more joyful journey.”

For some women, the journey from pregnancy to parenthood can be more complicated, Bartlett says. It was for this reason that she and Safran created their unique service, which bridges the support of the maternity unit to the client’s home and family.

“We specialize in maternal mental health and have extensive experience treating women with adjustment issues related to pregnancy and postpartum,” Bartlett says. “For many postpartum women, traveling to a therapist is too difficult. We are passionate about making treatment accessible to women in crisis and at risk for perinatal mood disorders. So we offer up to three in-home psychotherapy consultations, and if needed, help with the transition to an office-based practice with one of our experienced clinicians.”

When Bartlett and Safran visit a client in her home, they provide support and reassurance while getting to know the client and her needs. They work with her on specific wellness goals and provide the support she needs throughout her recovery.
